A Readers' Favorite
The disciple John often referred to himself as the “disciple whom Jesus loved” (John 13:23, John 19:26, John 20:2, John 21:7, John 21:20) because he knew the love of God personally. It was John who wrote the most quoted verses in the Gospels concerning God’s love:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
“He that loves not knows not God; for God is love” (1 John 8).
Paul also wrote extensively about God’s love, including the well-known chapter (1 Corinthians 13) on the “greatest gift” we have received from God, where he declared that if he does not have love “I am nothing.” What kind of love is this?
